Abies phanerolepis (also known as the Canaan Fir) is a coniferous tree native to the higher elevations of the Appalachian Mountains in the eastern United States.
Description

- Crown: Conical shape with a slender trunk.
- Bark: Smooth and gray when young, becoming furrowed with age.
- Needles: Flattened, dark green on top with two white stomatal bands underneath.
- Cones: Cylindrical, purplish when young, maturing to brown.
Habitat
- Elevation: Found at elevations of 3,000 to 5,000 feet.
- Climate: Prefers cool, moist conditions typical of higher elevations in the Appalachian range.
